Two exciting projects will soon be released by Yvette Landry. Although both are titled, Taking the World, by Storm, the subtitles and formats are very different. The first project, A Conversation with the Godfather of Swamp Pop, Warren “Storm” Schexnider, is a book published by UL Press. Here’s what Landry put together…

Known to many as “The Godfather of Swamp Pop,” Warren “Storm” Schexnider is a Louisiana music legend with a career spanning over seventy years.
In Taking the World, by Storm, author and fellow musician Yvette Landry talks with Storm about his life, starting with his boyhood in rural Vermilion Parish. From meeting Elvis at Graceland, to shaking Hank Williams’s hand, to sharing the stage with Robert Plant and his idol, Fats Domino, Warren’s endless stories and anecdotes, as well as his incredible collection of photographs and memorabilia, open a window into the life of an important figure in American music.
As is the case for many a career musician, Storm’s road has not been an easy one to travel. Here, for the first time in print, Warren tells his own story and the story of swamp pop in his own words.
Landry’s second project was to produce a musical companion, a new record from the Godfather subtitled, A Regional Roots Journey with the Godfather of Swamp Pop. Here’s how it came about…
While interviewing Warren for the book, Taking the World, by Storm, the idea arose of re-releasing some of his old recordings to accompany the publication. With Warren being 82 and still sounding incredible, we made the decision to record a new album. A record like the ones Warren had recorded many times in his career—straight to two-track tape, no digital overdubs, all in the room like in the good old days, LIVE.
At Dockside Studios in Maurice, stellar musicians gathered. Creedence Clearwater Revival’s John Fogerty, Marc Broussard, Sonny Landreth, Yvette Landry and many more showed up to create Warren’s newest release, Taking the World, by Storm. The resulting album has everything you’ll hope for—more great work from one of Louisiana’s iconic musicians, a consummate performer in the studio and a man who commands the respect and love of the many professional musicians who have had the opportunity to know him and work with him.
